US Congress clears sweeping Russia sanctions bill; Moscow warns peace talks will be harder
The House sent a broad sanctions package to President Trump on September 16. Kyiv calls it leverage to push Russia toward peace; the Kremlin says additional sanctions would obstruct negotiations.
Both parties to the conflict are presented separately, followed by a factual neutral assessment.
Ukrainian account
President Zelenskyy called the package a powerful tool that could raise the cost of the war and push Russia toward serious peace talks.
Russian account
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov called additional U.S. sanctions an unfriendly step and said they would complicate efforts to reach a peace settlement.
Neutral editorial assessment
The 262-159 House vote and the bill's transmission to the president are confirmed. Its effect is not yet measurable: the package still requires the president's signature, and its impact depends on implementation and enforcement.
