Both parties to the conflict are presented separately, followed by a factual neutral assessment.

U.S. account

There was no immediate public US response to the Iranian proposal. Trump said on 17 September that he was nearing a decision on possible renewed large-scale attacks and wanted to consult regional partners first.

Iranian account

Rezaei listed an end to the war on all fronts, release of frozen Iranian funds and an end to the US naval blockade. He said consultations with Qatar and Pakistan were continuing.

Neutral editorial assessment

Reuters, AP and Al Jazeera consistently report Rezaei's remarks. It remains unclear when the terms were sent or whether Washington accepts them as a basis for negotiations; no agreement has been reached.
