Russian drone attacks hit Ukrainian cities as casualty figures rise
Russian drone attacks struck Kyiv, Dnipro and other Ukrainian cities on 28 September. AP reported at least seven dead and more than 80 wounded; Reuters later reported ten deaths.
Both parties to the conflict are presented separately, followed by a factual neutral assessment.
Ukrainian account
Ukrainian authorities reported deaths and many injuries at civilian sites, including the National Academy of Sciences in Kyiv, an office centre in Dnipro and residential buildings. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy also said Ukrainian forces had struck Russian defence and oil facilities.
Russian account
Russia's Defence Ministry said data centres, petrol stations and cargo ships were military-related targets. It also reported intercepting 254 Ukrainian drones; these claims and the alleged military use of the targets were not independently verified.
Neutral editorial assessment
AP, Reuters and AFP/Al Jazeera confirm a broad wave of attacks and civilian casualties. The reported death toll rose during the day from at least seven to as many as ten. Target descriptions, interception figures and Ukrainian counterstrikes come from the warring parties; both sides deny deliberately targeting civilians.
