Both parties to the conflict are presented separately, followed by a factual neutral assessment.

Ukrainian account

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Ukrainian authorities said energy facilities in and around Kyiv were the main targets. Residential buildings were also hit, and a child was killed in Vyshhorod. Ukraine is asking for more air defence.

Russian account

Russia's Defence Ministry confirmed a massive attack and said it hit hydroelectric and thermal power plants, a substation, an energy storage facility and a data centre with military significance. The alleged military use was not independently verified.

Neutral editorial assessment

AP, Reuters and AFP corroborate the attack, power-grid damage and at least four deaths in the wider Kyiv area; AP reported seven deaths nationwide. Casualty totals and detailed effects come mainly from Ukrainian officials. Russia confirms the attack but describes the targets as militarily relevant infrastructure.
