UN mission sees grounds for possible US war crimes in Iran; Washington rejects report

Both parties to the conflict are presented separately, followed by a factual neutral assessment.

U.S. account

The White House and State Department dismissed the report as not credible. Washington says Iran is responsible for war crimes and cites attacks abroad and repression at home.

Iranian account

Iranian accounts say the Minab school strike killed more than 150 people, including about 120 children. The UN mission attributes the Minab and Lamerd attacks to U.S. forces and calls for reparations.

Neutral editorial assessment

The report was issued by independent experts mandated by the UN Human Rights Council, but it is nonbinding and not a court ruling. The United States has not officially accepted responsibility for Minab; the mission also found possible crimes against humanity by Iranian authorities.
