Russian attack waves hit Ukraine's power grid
Russia struck energy facilities across Ukraine on 3 November, while Russia reported a Ukrainian drone attack on a refinery.
Both parties to the conflict are presented separately, followed by a factual neutral assessment.
Ukrainian account
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Russia launched 289 drones, 17 ballistic missiles and 59 cruise missiles. Energy company DTEK said three of its five thermal power plants were knocked offline; officials reported power and water outages in Kyiv and other regions.
Russian account
Russia's Defence Ministry said it targeted electricity facilities supplying military factories and the Ukrainian army. Russian officials also said a Ukrainian drone attack caused a fire at a major refinery in Yaroslavl.
Neutral editorial assessment
AP and Reuters confirm widespread outages and reciprocal attacks. The weapons and damage figures and the descriptions of military targets come from the parties to the conflict and cannot be fully independently verified. The escalation came a week before planned talks in Abu Dhabi.
