US strikes near Qeshm raise pressure despite mediation
The United States reported limited strikes on Iranian air-defence positions near the Strait of Hormuz on 3 November as Qatar continued mediation.
Both parties to the conflict are presented separately, followed by a factual neutral assessment.
Iranian account
Iranian parliament speaker Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf said Washington had to prevent further fighting. Tehran called the US response to its conditions insufficient and is demanding measures including oil-sanctions relief, an end to the naval blockade and the release of frozen funds.
U.S. account
A US official said the strikes on Qeshm Island targeted surface-to-air missiles threatening US assets and were limited. President Donald Trump did not rule out further military action while also saying talks were continuing.
Neutral editorial assessment
AP and Reuters confirm the US strikes and continuing Qatari mediation. The US justification and Iranian accounts of countermeasures are only partly independently verifiable. No agreement had been reached, and both sides kept military options open.
