US warns allies of possible renewed Iran escalation after election
US officials have prepared regional partners for possible new strikes on Iran and Iranian retaliation after the US election, according to AP.
Both parties to the conflict are presented separately, followed by a factual neutral assessment.
U.S. account
Two diplomats cited by AP said US diplomatic and military officials warned allies of a possible multi-day US operation after 3 November and Iranian retaliation. President Trump publicly said further strikes were possible; the diplomats said no final decision had been made.
Iranian account
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said Tehran was still giving diplomacy a chance and was reviewing earlier ceasefire proposals with mediators. Iranian officials have also said that any new attack would draw a broader response.
Neutral editorial assessment
AP bases the warnings on two unnamed diplomats briefed on the matter; the White House declined to comment. Reuters confirms Trump's public statement that further strikes after the election were possible. A new military operation is therefore not confirmed, but regional preparations for that risk are documented.
