More oil flows through Hormuz, Iran remains under blockade pressure

According to AP’s analysis of Kpler data, non-Iranian oil exports through Hormuz rose from 300,000 barrels a day at the height of the war to 8.4 million in September. Including alternative routes, the figure was 10.8 million, compared with about 14 million before the war. Iran’s exports fell from 1.85 million in the spring to about 255,000 barrels a day in August.

Both parties to the conflict are presented separately, followed by a factual neutral assessment.

U.S. account

The United States portrays the increase as a partial success of its blockade and ship-escort operations: non-Iranian traffic is recovering while Iranian exports remain sharply restricted.

Iranian account

Iran continues to claim control over Hormuz and rejects concessions concerning the strait, its nuclear program, or its regional allies.

Neutral editorial assessment

The data show a genuine partial reopening, but not a return to normal levels or a political breakthrough. The figures come from AP’s analysis of Kpler data; IEA monitoring provides the broader energy-market context.
