Trump rules out a US attack on Iran before 3 November
Donald Trump said on 8 October that the United States would not attack Iran before the 3 November midterm elections and that productive discussions were under way. No permanent de-escalation or agreement was announced.
Both parties to the conflict are presented separately, followed by a factual neutral assessment.
U.S. account
Trump explicitly limited the pledge to election day and left military options open afterwards. Additional US naval forces are still expected in the region, while Washington is demanding meaningful limits on Iranian uranium enrichment.
Iranian account
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said Tehran was reviewing a US counterproposal and would respond within days. Nuclear chief Mohammad Eslami said Iran would neither abandon uranium enrichment nor surrender its enriched material.
Neutral editorial assessment
AP and Reuters confirm Trump's time-limited no-attack pledge and continuing indirect contacts. IranWire documents Iran's unchanged enrichment position. The counterproposal is not public, so neither a peace agreement nor an end to the military threat has been established.
